Detail of Services

AirSpec utilizes state-of-the-art instrumentation and many years of experience to determine the cause of indoor illness, employee health complaints and discomfort. Our investigations are customized to solve the IAQ problem.

Indoor Air Quality Investigations

The AirSpec mold assessment includes a thorough analysis of the building in order to characterize the extent of mold contamination. Air and surface samples will be required in most cases. Water infiltration sources will be discovered through infrared thermography and moisture meters. All of the data is compiled into a professional level report. All recommendations are justified through our findings. Finally, a mold remediation protocol will be developed that follows published nationally recognized guidelines. These include:

IICRC: IICRC S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration. Second Edition, 2003.

American Conference of Industrial Hygienists: Bioaerosols, Assessment and Control. ACGIH, Cincinnati, OH (1999)

AirSpec does not sell any products nor do we have an interest in any remediation companies.

Mold Assessments and Remediation Protocol Documentation

To insure that a mold remediation is accomplished properly, AirSpec can be contracted to visually inspect the work area and to conduct appropriate air and surface sampling to verify the efficacy of the remediation. After successful completion of the inspection, a detailed report is delivered.

In the State of Florida, there is a mold disclosure law that requires a home seller to disclose if water infiltration or mold colonization occurred inside the residence. Our inspection and documentation is designed to reduce liability for the homeowner and mold remediation contractor.

Post-Remediation Inspections

In some cases it is necessary to invasively examine building materials for the presence of mold colonization. This occurs in situations were an indoor illness or odor has been reported; however, there are no physical signs of mold colonization. Drywall, plaster, and insulation is removed to discover the source.

Invasive Mold Assessments

AirSpec has extensive practical experience in the causes of water infiltration and mold colonization. Air Spec will use state-of-the-art inspection techniques and instrumentation to discover the cause of a water infiltration. This information is useful to an insurance adjuster or lawyer in order to determine insurability or fault.

Infra-Red Thermography

AirSpec can easily determine the extent of water infiltration and discover the source of water leaks in building structures through the use of Infra-red thermography.

This wall did not exhibit visible mold colonization.

However, the infrared image of the same area indicated water infiltration. The wall was removed and mold colonization was found.

Industrial Hygiene & Safety

Mike Steepy, CIH, CSP has held positions as an Industrial Hygienist, health and safety consultant, Safety and Health Analyst, and Corporate Safety and Health Director for both government and private industries. We understand the complexities of large and small organizations and can effectively operate in both types of environments. AirSpec’s objective is to anticipate, recognize, measure, and control chemical and physical stresses in the workplace.  AirSpec offers consultative services including:

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Certified Safety Professional  (CSP) Services

Worker exposure monitoring: chemical air contaminants, indoor air quality (IAQ), noise, heat & radiation

Worker exposure control strategies

Evaluation of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, with training and quantitative fit testing (QNFT)

Industrial hygiene program audits

Regulatory issues: OSHA, EPA

Accident investigations

Initially, we listen carefully to our clients concerns, inform them about regulatory requirements, and our past experiences with those issues. Together with the client, we develop a plan for services.  AirSpec will review historic worker exposure monitoring records and walk through the plant to observe current work practices.  We will develop exposure monitoring strategies, such as chemical air sampling or noise monitoring.  We also work with our clients to develop effective, yet workable, exposure control strategies, including training of workers.  Finally, we will report our findings in a professional, comprehensive, yet understandable fashion. We will support our clients to help resolve any regulatory or litigation issues.

Cause and Origin Investigations

AirSpec has been involved in legal actions as an expert witness representing the plaintiff and the defense in mold-related  litigation. Our extensive experience and qualifications in mold issues will provide a powerful influence to your case.
